Marriage Summit FAQs

For Priests

As a pastor, may I send an additional lay delegate to the Marriage Summit instead of attending myself?

We have offered priests the option to attend the Marriage Summit as we believe priests are central to the success of this parish-based marriage ministry movement. We have therefore, created unique opportunities for priest’s participation at the Marriage Summit. Due to space limitations we cannot replace a priest ticket with a lay delegate ticket.

As a pastor, may I send more than four delegates to the Marriage Summit?

Though we would love to allow pastors to send as many delegates to the Marriage Summit as he chooses, we are limited by space and have to limit the number of attendees. If you would like to place a couple on a waiting list please contact Susi Diaz at sdiaz@theadom.org. Please note that we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accept any couples off of the waiting list. If we are able to do so, we will notify you after March 10th and before March 15th.

For Parish Delegates

Can I register my spouse at the same time I register?

You may register your spouse, but to ensure accuracy in sorting registrations, each registration must be completed individually. The only way to register your spouse, therefore, is to complete a separate registration for your spouse.

I registered online; however, I am not sure my registration was complete. How do I check to make sure it is?

Thank you for registering. For questions with your registration, please send an email to Susi Diaz at sdiaz@theadom.org.

I would like to come but cannot attend the entire time, is that okay?

Our hope is that all Parish Delegates will be able to be present the entire time (12:30pm- 8:30pm) as some of the material will build upon previous material and will be referenced throughout. If you are unable to attend for a majority of the Marriage Summit, you may want to consider allowing your pastor to invite another couple who could be present the entire time. We understand, however, that some Parish Delegates may have conflicts and may need to arrive a little late or leave a little early. If this is the case, please indicate this when registering (there will be a question to answer about your availability). We need to have accurate numbers throughout the day for logistics, catering and breakout session workshops.

May I change the Breakout Session Workshop I registered for?

Yes, before March 10th. To change your Workshop, please send an email to Susi Diaz at sdiaz@theadom.org with your name, Golden Ticket number and which Workshop you would like to attend. Unfortunately, after March 10th we cannot make changes as rooms will be assigned at that point based upon interest.

May I invite friends to portions of the day or mass with the Archbishop?

Though we would love to have more people attend this Marriage Summit, we are limited by our facilities and cannot make the event or mass open to the public.

What are the options for the Breakout Session Workshops?

During the Marriage Summit there will be two different rounds of BREAKOUT SESSIONS.

NOTE: If attending as a couple, we highly recommend couples to attend the same workshop so you can learn the material together and can utilize the information together for ministry after the Marriage Summit.

2H. English: Fully Engaged: Becoming a Mentor Couple to an Engaged Couple Through Facilitating Their Pre-Marital Inventory

DESCRIPTION: Fully Engaged is the archdiocesan approved pre-marital inventory that an engaged couple completes separately and then discusses with a trained facilitator or mentor couple. The discussions allow the engaged couple to discuss areas of expectations and understanding of their future married life. This workshop is an introduction to this ministry. Further training is required and options will be available. This ministry would be a good option for those who feel they would be well suited to meet with engaged couples as a mentor couple.

2I. English: Transformed in Love: Being on Team with the Archdiocesan English Marriage Preparation Group Program

DESCRIPTION: Transformed in Love is the approved English speaking marriage preparation program in the archdiocese. Transformed in Love is a two-day program that seeks to reconnect engaged couples with the faith; educate clearly, concisely, and accurately regarding the nature of marriage and, for Christians, its sacramental character; provide practical skills (communication skills, conflict resolution, etc.) that will help engaged couples live out their marriage vows; and provide the witness of faith-filled married couples. Join us to help engaged couples be “transformed in love” and experience the benefits in your own life! This ministry would be a good option for English speaking couples who feel they would be well suited to present on various topics related to marriage (materials already prepared).

2J. NOTE: This workshop has been moved to the dinner gathering so that all delegates can learn how to run this ministry at their parish. Please do not register for this workshop. We are leaving the description so you know what will be covered during the dinner hour.English: Fiat Couples Group: Running a Monthly Marriage Enrichment Couples Group in Your Parish

DESCRIPTION: A Fiat Couples Group is a small group of couples (4-8 couples) that meet monthly on Saturday nights (rotating at member’s homes) for faith sharing and dinner. Parish priests are invited to join the group when possible. The prayer time is usually an hour and is led by a standard prayer guide that consists of reading and reflecting on the Sunday scriptures, sharing prayer thanks and offering prayer requests. The evening ends with a potluck dinner (the host couple provides the main course and everyone else brings the sides). This workshop will overview the entire concept and no further training is required. This ministry would be good for those who would like to create (and be committed to) a couple’s faith sharing group. Parishes could begin by creating one group and then add groups as more couples express interest.

2K. English: Amore Parish Couples Group: Running a Weekly Marriage Enrichment Couples Group in Your Parish

DESCRIPTION: This group is for couples (dating, engaged or married) wanting to improve their relationships with their each other, their children and family. The purpose of the weekly gathering is to become educated about relationship topics like bringing God into your relationship, communication, emotional intimacy, sexual intimacy, forgiveness, finances, romance, and parenting. Groups have opportunities to socialize, attend events, attend workshops, select various materials to review or go on or organize a retreat together—all with the aim of building your relationship with God, spouse, family and community. This workshop will overview the entire concept and no further training is required. This ministry would be good for those who would like to create (and maintain) a weekly couple’s gathering at the parish.

2L. English: Marriage Enrichment: Offering a One-time Marriage Enrichment Program at Your Parish

DESCRIPTION: If a couple wants to do something to strengthen their marriage, they often have to do so outside of the parish. Why not organize and run a one-time marriage enrichment event at your parish? This workshop will highlight options for “one-time” marriage enrichment programs that range from one meeting to a series of meetings. Options vary from allowing you to simply bring in a guest speaker for a Date Night to a DVD series (all you have to do is organize the meetings and “press play”). All of the options presented are geared toward helping you offer something at the parish that is easy, limited in time, and that will strengthen the marriages of those who attend. This workshop is ideal for a couple who has good administrative and leadership skills to organize and facilitate a one-time marriage enrichment program.

2M. English: Marriage Enrichment: Offering Marriage Enrichment in Haitian Communities

DESCRIPTION: Join pastors and leaders from the Haitian community as we review options for strengthening the vocation of marriage in the Haitian community in Miami. We will discuss many of the other options for ministry covered in the other workshops including Fully Engaged, Transformed in Love, promoting NFP and Fiat Couple’s Groups.

2N. English: Natural Family Planning: Awareness, Advocacy and Support to Couples in Your Parish

DESCRIPTION: Natural Family Planning is one of the least understood and most misunderstood aspects of Church teachings on marriage and family life, yet one of the most important. If you agree and want to help promote NFP in your parish and this archdiocese, join us for this workshop on how best to do so.

2O. English: For Priests Only: How to Best Utilize and Support Your Parish Marriage Missionaries

DESCRIPTION: For parish priests only. Come join us to review what is being presented to your Parish Delegates throughout the Marriage Summit, including what they are being encouraged to do to strengthen the vocation of marriage at your parish.
